Mississippi Lions Eye Bank

 MLEB houses its laboratory facilities in the Lions State Office Building.Mississippi leads the nation in per capital blindness. Approximately 15-20% of those individuals could have their sight restored through a corneal transplant. Because of that fact, MLEB works diligently with all hospitals in the state of Mississippi (excluding Desoto County) to educate the public regarding the need for donation as well as to facilitate the donation process.

Once death occurs, families are given the information they need to make an informed decision regarding donation. If the family consents, MLEB will then coordinate the donation procedure.

MLEB works closely with hospitals to insure they meet all federal guidelines concerning the notification of potential donors as well as the donation process. MLEBprovides ocular tissue for over 35 surgeons in the state of Mississippi and is a member of the Eye Bank Association of America.
